Municipality of Chinhoyi donates

CHINHOYI: Municipality of Chinhoyi made a sound donation of groceries during the 2021 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund to people in needy who reside at children’s home and three homes of the elderly in Chinhoyi.

The council made a donation Thursday in Chinhoyi’s four homes namely, Good Shephard Children’s Home, Nazareth, Chengetanai Old People’s Home and Sunningdale Trust.

A Hunyani Section couple, Mr and Mrs Banda who house was gutted by fire also benefited from the timely donation that is likely to go a long way in assisting the beneficiaries.

The donation whose totally cost could not be immediately available was a sound donation estimated close to ZWL1 million.

Speaking to beneficiaries leadership, Municipality of Chinhoyi mayor Clr Garikai Dendera said it was norm for the council to seek donation yearly to assist the needy.

”We are gathered here at Chengetanai to give the grocery donation to the elderly, though it was meant for Christmas we believe as council that it will go a long way in assisting the needy,” he said.

Accepting the donation, Chengetanai Old People’s home secretary, Mrs Ruth Mururi Kadonzvo thanked the council for the timely donation.

”I would like to thank the council for grocery donation, it will go a long way in assisting the elderly who reside here,” she said.

Sunningdale Trust’s secretary, Mr Bill Bowie received the grocery donation on behalf of the Trust while Good Shepard Children’s Home administrator, Mrs Farai Zunzanyika received on behalf of the Children’s Home and Mr Eric Makore received on behalf of Nazareth Home of the Elderly.

Municipality of Chinhoyi’s acting Housing Director, Mrs Hilda Kabangura chaired the Committee during fundraising for the mayor’s cheer fund.
